Iao Valley State Park is located just 3 miles off of the junction
of routes 30 and 32, at the base of the West Maui Mountains in Wailuku.
Its an excellent additional side ride to the West Maui loop.(routes 30 and
340) Surrounded my steep mile high peaks, Iao Valley is at the edge
of one of the wettest areas on earth. The lush tropical foliage testifies to
this. The above picture was taken about a mile from the park near the entrance
to Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens, another "must see" along the way. This smooth
paved road climbs about 500' from Wailuku.
While here at Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens, take a dip in the pool or
use the picnic facilities.
The sheer sides of the West Maui Mountains rise into the clouds.
Iao Valley Park offers hiking, nature walks, spectacular views all in a lush exotic setting. Take a dip into Iao Stream but don't drink the water and like anywhere, don't leave your bike unattended.
