Cook pines help the island watershed capabilities by condensing water
out of the frequently misty conditions.
The pineapple industry on the "Pineapple Isle" will soon be a memory.
The Garden of the Gods
As the ridge road ends, a cemetary and the a golf course appear. You have reached the world class resort at Koele just outside Lanai City. You can spend hundreds a night on a "room" here or camp at Hulopoe Bay (next to Manele Harbor where the ferry docks) for $5 a night at a full service beach. A camping permit is required from Koele.
For another little ride, check out the "Gardens of the Gods" rock formations . This ride is about 14 miles, almost level, round trip from Lanai City.
